🐍 Ariadne Waiting

Statement: In "Ariadne Waiting," I sought to reinterpret the myth of Ariadne, blending the timelessness of classical narrative with a contemporary lens. Ariadne, often remembered for her abandonment by Theseus, is portrayed here in a moment of quiet anticipation, her figure adorned with golden accents symbolising divinity and resilience.

The textured backdrop, layered in muted, earthy tones, creates a sense of both ethereality and groundedness, echoing the duality of her story—one of loss and eventual transcendence. The coiled serpent in the foreground serves as both a reminder of danger and a symbol of renewal, while the live plant intertwining with the composition introduces a tangible element of life, growth, and connection to nature.

The inclusion of a golden halo over her head transforms her from a victim of fate to a figure of empowerment and sanctity, inviting the viewer to contemplate themes of waiting, transformation, and self-reclamation. This piece combines painting, sculpture, and organic elements to evoke a narrative that is both personal and mythological, speaking to the universal human experiences of love, abandonment, and rediscovery.
